Chickens raised right,
sold straight from the shed.

This week on the farm

The batch board.

Most poultry farms make you phone to find out whether there are birds. We publish it. Every house on the farm is listed here with its stage, its numbers and the date it comes off. Plan your week around it, then book your share before the batch closes.

How ordering works

Four steps from your message to your bakkie.

  1. 01

    Send the order

Use the order form, WhatsApp or a phone call. Tell us the line, the quantity and the day you need it. Wholesale buyers can send a standing weekly order.

  2. 02

    We confirm the batch

We check your quantity against the batch board and reply with a written quote: unit price, bulk rate if it applies, delivery fee and the collection date.

  3. 03

    Pay and lock it in

Cash at the gate, EFT, or a 50% deposit for orders above 50 birds. The deposit holds your birds in the batch so they are not sold from under you.

  4. 04

    Collect or receive

Collect at the farm between 07:00 and 17:00, or we deliver on the scheduled run for your town. Birds are weighed in front of you before they load.

Wholesale and standing orders. Retailers, butcheries, caterers and spaza shops can register a standing weekly order and get first call on each batch before it opens to walk-in buyers. Apply for a supply account.

Health & biosecurity

A healthy bird is not luck. It is a routine.

Poultry disease moves fast and it moves on boots, crates and vehicles. Our houses run on a written routine, the same one every cycle, because that is what keeps a batch alive and a buyer coming back.

  • Chicks sourced from a registered hatchery and vaccinated against Newcastle disease and Gumboro on schedule.
  • Foot dip and hand wash at every house entrance. Visitors do not walk between houses.
  • Houses cleaned, disinfected and rested between cycles before new chicks are placed.
  • Fresh shavings, clean water lines and feed stored off the ground and away from rodents.
  • Daily mortality, feed and weight recorded per house so problems show up early.
  • Sick birds isolated immediately, never sold, never mixed back into a batch.

Who we supply

Same farm gate, four kinds of buyer.

We priced this business so that the household buying one bird and the shop buying eighty are both worth serving. Find the line that fits how you buy.

Buyer A

Households

Walk in, choose live or dressed, pay at the gate. No minimum. Weekend collections are busiest, so a message on Friday saves you a queue.

From 1 bird

Buyer B

Spaza shops & retailers

Weekly standing orders at the 20-plus bulk rate, delivered on your town's run day so your fridge is stocked before the weekend.

Buyer C

Butcheries & caterers

Dressed whole birds or portions cut to your spec, chilled and packed the same morning. Invoiced monthly on an approved supply account.

From 50 kg

Buyer D

Small growers

Buy day-old chicks or point-of-lay hens by the box and rear them yourself. We send the feeding and vaccination schedule with every order.

From 50 chicks

Thousands of young chicks spread across a brooder house floor with feed trays and drinkers
Placement day · feed and water within reach of every chick

Why we farm

Food security starts with somebody nearby who can actually raise the bird.

Sompisi Poultry Farm was started in 2024 at Sisulu Location in Umzimkhulu. The reason was simple enough: chicken in this district travels a long way before it reaches a plate, and the money travels with it. A farm here keeps both closer to home.

Every cycle we run creates work on the farm, keeps a shop supplied without a two-hour round trip, and puts affordable protein into the community that raised it. We are growing on purpose and at a pace we can keep clean.
